Transcending Evil, Discovering Humanity
Luc Besson's signature way is all over the writing of this very fine niggling picture. His ability to push button the buttons on the most violent screen business concern while gradually developing a tale of warm sentiment is well served by manager Louis Leterrier and a perfect cast of actors. UNLEASHED is one of the few examples of how martial arts and bona fide drama can be mutually supportive in creating a film that is at in one case thrillingly able-bodied and gently tender.
Bart (Bob Hoskins) is a brutish loan shark thug who makes his 'collections' accompanied past his 'canis familiaris' Danny (Jet Li), a silent human being Bart has raised form childhood to exist a caged killer, a human with a dog neckband that when removed unleashes a ferocious beast who kills on command of his main Bart. Bart keeps him in a cage, feeds him, and uses him solely for his criminal doings. Danny unleashed is simply a Pavlovian animal and when the collar is replaced, he becomes docile with the sad optics of a puppy.
During a 'collection' gone bad, Danny escapes and finds shelter in an antiquarian shop basement where he meets bullheaded pianoforte tuner Sam (Morgan Freeman), a gentle man who gradually introduces Danny to music, trains him as his assistant, and introduces him to his 'family' - his step daughter Victoria (Kerry Condon). With the ii of these welcoming, tender people Danny discovers how beautiful life can be. The story from this indicate is how Danny chooses betwixt his Pavlovian response life as a killer and the uncomplicated life of Sam and Victoria. The journey is not without stressors and it is a difficult transition that keeps the viewer on seat's edge.
The wonder of this film lies in the extraordinary performances not normally associated with martial arts films. Jet Li does some of his finest athletic fighting on film, but thankfully at the same time creates a character who is multidimensional and memorable - a very fine acting job by Li. Bob Hoskins is brilliant every bit the despicably cruel Bart, Morgan Freeman adds a luster to his fine portrayal of blind Sam, and Kerry Condon makes Victoria zany and lovable at the same time. The action is superbly captured by cinematographer Pierre Morel with the aura of darkness in Danny's caged life serving equally a perfect foil to the martial arts sequences. In short, this is a fine niggling picture about characters worth knowing and provides audiences with both action and drama of a very high level of achievement. A Barbarous-Yet-Touching Film
For a martial arts motion picture, "Unleashed" was in a higher place boilerplate because information technology had some centre and soul to information technology.....not just people beating the crap out of one another for two straight hours.
However, be wary of those who claim this isn't an activeness pic. That's not true: at that place is a lot of activeness, quite a bit of brutality and profanity, mostly past Bob Hoskins' character "Bart" in this picture show. Hoskins plays profane, nasty slave-owner who has locked up and trained "Danny" (Jet Li) to be the ultimate fighting machine. One time Danny is "unleashed" (literally) he's a killer and helps the gangster Bart in his criminal work.
And then, in a moment of farther greed, Hoskins agrees to enter his man in a death match with a lot of money at pale. That friction match turns out to be a farce with Danny winning in a thing of seconds. The other promoter wants a rematch, and with more amusement. In the concurrently, however, Danny escapes his captors and winds up at the business firm of an older bullheaded American, "Sam," played by Morgan Freeman. He and his 18-yr-onetime daughter "Natalie" (Kelly Condon) befriend immature Danny, slowly bringing him out of his "animal" state. Everyone discovers Danny has some very human characteristics and is basically a nice, gentle guy. The family helps uncover that through music (piano playing, to be exact). These are all touching scenes.
But then - and this is nearly a cliché in these kind of films - the bad guy comes back, snatches him away and his former bad life comes back....except Danny is a changed man. How he can get out of this latest predicament and what happens to this new "adopted" family, takes up the balance of the story. That final part has the aforementioned thing: ultra-tearing and touching scenes.
Jet Li does an excellent job in here, not only displaying his amazing concrete talents but also showing us he has warmth in his face and heart.
Overall: a brutal, yet touching film: an odd combination.

a.k.a - Danny the Dog
Warning: Spoilers
It has happened finally. Jet Li has made a foreign film (that would be a non Chinese moving-picture show) that is actually proficient. For the most function, Jet Li's career in American and European movies take been brainless action movies. In these movies Jet has non had to human activity and would appear to the untrained eye every bit not being able to act. This of class is not true (especially if you have seen whatsoever of his Chinese movies - Once Upon a Time in China series and Fong Sai Yuk series as an example). This picture actually lets him flex his interim musculus.
The story revolves around a Glasgow loan shark, Bart, (played despicably well past Bob Hoskins) who enforces his territory with the use of a human on a leash (a.1000.a. Danny, Jet Li). When the leash is taken off and the command given, Danny springs into a violent rage. With the neckband on, Danny is quite docile and child-like. Equally the story progresses, we discover that Danny has been "trained" to bear like this since he was a child. He eats from a tin can and sleeps in a cage. When Bart rubs a payee the wrong mode, the payee feels the need to rub Bart out (namely with a dump truck and some automatic rifles). Danny gets away, and stumbles onto a blind piano tuner (Morgan Freeman) and his step-daughter (Kerry Condon), who take him in and show him a dissimilar lifestyle.
The conflict in this movie arises from the contact betwixt Danny'south two divergent lifestyles (especially since Bart doesn't die in the hit). First and foremost, if i comes to see this movie with a preconceived notion of Jet Li (especially from his non-Chinese movies), you will be disappointed. This is not an action movie. This is a drama. This is not to say at that place isn't action in the motion picture, but it is non the main attraction.
There is action in this movie, only it doesn't dominate the drama. It is used finer to convey the chaos and inhumanity that Danny goes through. The activeness is quite good and Ong-Bak-ish. 1 tin can't assistance just become ouch, when a kicking or punch (or sledge-hammer) connects.
Jet Li is the main attraction of this movie. In studying for this role, Jet Li trained with an interim omnibus and seemed to practise quite a lot of method interim. On set he would sit solitary and eat his nutrient and would isolate himself from people. He also studied the behavior of dogs. Morgan Freeman plays the wisely-father-figure. Kerry Condon does a good task of playing the cute, innocent, & potential dear interest. Bob Hoskins does a great job of doing a cockney, ruthless thug. Jet'southward operation along with that of his supporting cast, brand this the best of the Jet Li's strange (non-Chinese) movies. I highly recommend it.

Surprises never cease, Unleashed is the best activity film I've seen in years.
Rating: **** out of ****
If I'm always skeptical of Jet Li's English-speaking films, it'south for good reason. They're usually crap. Too often, he'south either been put in the hands of incompetent directors who couldn't properly pic or edit his impressive martial arts abilities and/or he'southward teamed alongside a cast that includes one rapper too many. It also didn't help that these movies were poorly written and acted, failing to work as either a showcase for Li's moves or his charisma. So information technology'due south all the more than satisfying that Unleashed goes through its entire running time without succumbing to any single one of these flaws.
Jet Li stars as Danny, a fully grown man with the mind of a child who is a literal slave/pet to Bart (Bob Hoskins), a Glasgow mob boss who keeps Danny in a cage and uses him as a form of "persusasion" to those who owe him money. Like a dog, Danny wears a collar, shy and seemingly impaired whenever it's clasped around his cervix, only a ferocious killer once he's unleashed.
After a mishap with another criminal, Bart and Danny are left for expressionless, leaving an injured Danny to crawl to a warehouse where he's taken under the wing of kindly blind piano tuner Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his stepdaughter, Victoria (Kerry Condon). Starting over with a clean slate, Danny comes to enjoy his new life and loving family unit; no longer is violence or cruelty something he must face everyday. Simply fate hands him an unlucky turn when he's forced to confront Bart, finding no choice just to give in to his violent side 1 concluding time.
The film's premise, that of a violent man finding a improve life, is nothing new but rarely have I seen the simple only effective premise delivered so well and with such genuine centre. To my immense surprise, it's Jet Li's functioning that anchors the motion picture, showing us a side of corrupted innocence and child-like enthusiasm that is sweet, moving, and occasionally even quite humorous. The transformation and natural maturity Danny undergoes is engaging, and information technology's to no small measure of Li's functioning that we promise Danny can entirely shed his former life fifty-fifty when we know it'll inevitably grab upwards with him.
Li is surrounded past a fantastic cast with great actors Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins pulling their own weight. Freeman delivers as always, playing the kindly authority figure with firm but gentle resolve. Hoskins is over-the-top but suitably so equally Bart, whom we're quite certain is complete scum, yet one can't dismiss the fact that he holds Danny in a certain esteem, and that he may actually be the only person in the world Bart cares for, however twisted a manner he chooses to show it. Relative newcomer Kerry Condon is beautiful and appealing, although she could just every bit easily have won me over with that slap-up smile of hers.
As a kick-ass activeness film, Unleashed is superb. The ratio of activeness to story might be a chip less than hardcore martial arts fans want, but at that place'south no question every facet of the plot bolsters the fight scenes, giving every battle a palpable and underlying current of emotion that adds to the thrills of the spectacle. And spectacular action this is; every fight scene-about specially the fell opening sequence and the thrilling, nigh emotionally exhausting climax-is brilliantly filmed and edited, wisely emphasizing Li'south natural abilities in favor of quick-cuts and wirework. At that place are a few instances of Matrix-manner slow motion, but the spare usage works to the film'south advantage. There's fifty-fifty a terrific fight scene inside a tiny bathroom that far outdoes a similar scene in The Matrix.
An absolute winner on almost every conceivable level (the exception being that the title should be changed back to Danny the Domestic dog, simply I'm not going to hold that against the moving picture), Unleashed delivers some of the all-time activity scenes I've seen to go hand-in-hand with memorable characters I adored and a story that riveted me from start to finish. I should besides not slight director Louis Leterrier, who puts it all together with the right mix of stiff manner and natural storytelling. Why tin't all action films be this good?

"Unleashed" - Unleashing the dragon on an unsuspecting public
Warning: Spoilers
"Unleashed" (formerly titled "Danny the Canis familiaris"), the new action flick that was written by Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Professional) and directed past Louis Leterrier, aims to be the star-making vehicle its star Jet Li has been looking for, and in many ways, it could be right on target.
I left the theater after seeing "Unleashed" with a cloud of good feeling looming over me. I've been eagerly waiting to see this motion picture for quite some time, as lately I accept watched a number of Li'due south past films, Asian and American, and have come up to realize that since beingness in the U.s.a., his film career has been quite uneven; simply things may exist prepare directly with this new activeness film.
E'er since making his American debut as the main villain in "Lethal Weapon four" (1998) then receiving his get-go English language-speaking leading role aslope late vocaliser/actress Aaliyah in "Romeo Must Dice" (2000), Li has quickly become the screen's most electric and sensational martial arts star. (In a few closed quarters, some even dub him as being the new Bruce Lee, but that's a wholly different affair.) His American projects have been wildly unfocused and undisciplined, being that his best endeavour in the United states so far is 2001's "Kiss of the Dragon," which is where Li outset teamed with Besson and their partnership was on that film's screenplay.
As I sabbatum in the darkened theater, I closely observed other people's reactions to the events unfolding on screen, which were for the near part, quite positive. Not only does this pic serve the purpose of rocketing Li into American stardom, simply information technology's too a showcase for his acting talents. (He Tin act, you know.) And it was this element that I focused on in the film, aside from the brutal fight sequences.
In "Unleashed," Li plays Danny, the human pitbull for Bart (Bob Hoskins), a particularly cold and ruthless debt collector operating in a rundown section of Glasgow. Danny does not accept what we would call a "normal" human being life, being that when he's not with Bart collecting debts, he spends his days living in a cage underneath Bart's office reading children's books, eating common cold, canned spaghetti, and wondering why he fifty-fifty exists.
Danny is also Bart's #one enforcer, his only restraint being a metal collar that he wears effectually his cervix every bit a symbol of the mental prison house he's bars to. If a client wishes to pay Bart, the collar stays on; if the client doesn't wish to pay, the collar comes off, and Danny is +unleashed+, attacking any and all with the cardinal ferocity of any caged creature, which many times leaves a room and its occupants in abattoir, and eagerly willing to pay up to Bart.
When Bart is attacked by a group of unnamed thugs and presumed killed in the fray, Danny is left to fend for himself. Lacking normal survival skills, he eventually finds room and board with a kind and blind pianoforte-tuner named Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his musically-talented and young stepdaughter Victoria (Kerry Condon).
Danny is at commencement afraid of his new surroundings, but given enough fourth dimension and patience, he eventually warms upward to his "family." He finds solace in piano music, and Victoria shows him the side of his personality that was uncorrupted by Bart's greed. Merely presently enough, Bart comes around looking for his "pet," but by so Danny has grown quite fastened to his new family unit, which he's not leaving without a fight.
Hollywood loves formula; that'southward a fact. Simply Hollywood has not seen an activeness movie quite like "Unleashed" in a long time, especially an activity movie with such a masterful blend of good performances, action, drama, and light-hearted humor. Three brutal fights occur within the start 20 minutes, simply and then we move into lighter territory for a expert clamper of the film, which is where Danny begins to open up and understand that there'south more to life than just fighting. Simply we must remember that start and foremost, this is an action movie.
Jet Li puts on a performance that exercises a level of restraint and passiveness that'due south been noticeably lacking in his past American roles. He's commencement presented as a mute, peradventure handicapped mentally, and unable to function exterior a life of violence. Only there is a human soul trapped underneath that seemingly calm facade, rugged face up, and raggedy wearable.
The supporting roles are splendid, with Morgan Freeman doing what he does best equally the blind human Sam, and Kerry Condon is fantabulous as well, with both performers able to provide a welcome counter to the motion picture's savage and bleak premise. Bob Hoskins is perfectly vile and sadistic as the brutal hoodlum Bart, who thinks that he may have this "dog" nether wraps, but by film'south cease, is proved expressionless wrong in his arrogant assumptions well-nigh Danny.
Lastly, the fights in this movie are spectacular, if incredibly brutal and realistic. There'due south wirework hither and there, courtesy of Yuen Woo Ping, but like Li's past films such as "Fist of Legend" (1994), information technology's not that easily noticeable, and some may be disappointed that the RZA/Massive Attack-produced soundtrack doesn't nail away in the background of almost of the film'southward action scenes.
"Unleashed" is the best motion picture of Jet Li's that I've seen nonetheless of any by movie he'southward done. This volition surely go him the credit he solely deserves since he has been in America and I hope that he gets it.

Music Saved His Life
In Glasgow, Danny (Jet Li) is a young specialist in marital arts raised like a canis familiaris past his owner, the gangster and collector Bart (Bob Hoskins). When Bart unleashes his collar, Danny behaves similar a wild animal, savagely pain and killing people as commanded by Bart. After an accident, the wounded Danny is lodged by the bullheaded tuner of piano Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his stepdaughter Victoria (Kerry Condon). They welcome him in the breast of their family, humanizing Danny, who feels attracted by music. Only his past haunts him.
I borrowed this DVD from a colleague not expecting to see a proficient flick, but only martial arts fights in a stupid plot... simply I was absolutely wrong! "Danny the Dog" is a dramatic story, with an fantabulous construction of a character, from a fell animal to a kind human existence. Jet Li has certainly his all-time performance in the office of Danny, who will certainly shake the emotions of the viewer and make him or her think about how many people, including children, are badly treated around the world, and what society tin can wait from them. The optimistic conclusion gives us hope that some day this state of affairs may exist fixed with love, dignity and care. Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman are fantastic, as usual, and the unknown Kerry Condon is lovely playing the sweet Victoria. I see many movies, but "Danny the Canis familiaris" was probably the best surprise I have had this yr. I do non give a 10 because of the exaggerated decision. My vote is nine.

This action drama is a really good flick and it is also one of the most underrated films of 2005.
Danny (Jet Li) is a human forced to live like a dog after being orphaned at the hands of a bad mobster (Bob Hoskins). Danny is trained to kill as a boy, while wearing a symbolic collar with a ski boot clip. Danny is used every bit a weapon to protect the mobster, who saved his life but when Danny thinks that his chief died from his enemies. Danny begins to learn about the outside life and he finds himself a loving bond with a blind pianist (Oscar-Winner:Morgan Freeman) and his step-girl (Kerry Condon). Danny finds himself over again in the easily of the mobster forcing him to fight merely Danny begins to learn about his other self every bit well as his own by.
Directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter ii) fabricated an terrific action-drama with an surprisingly refreshing sense of humour. Li, Freeman and Hoskins gives first-class performances in this truly underrated flick. Li's incredible martial arts theatrics are terrific. The violence in the film is brutal but engaging and fast-paced. This moving-picture show is vivid and an flawless sense of rhythm.
DVD has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer and an strong-Dolby Digital five.1 Environment Sound. DVD has iii featurettes and two music videos. Since this flick is the original European cut. DVD besides has the opinion to watch the extended cutting with the icon appears in the screen to view the scenes deleted from the film by pressing enter on your DVD remote control. This movie was a box function thwarting. Which is too bad, this is truly i of the about underrated films of 2005. Since this film was filmed in 2003 and information technology was finally released in the spring of 2005. Since Rogue Pictures, a segmentation of Universal Pictures is the distributor of the North American version. Which is 20th Century Fox was the original distributor for this film. a new management
So in the last few years we have seen Jet Li in Romeo must die and Cradle to the grave, both modernistic and with Jet Li approaching the field of study of acting, though hardly touching it. Then far Jet Li has not acted he has just been that kung fu guy, another Bruce Lee.
Simply hither, we see him act, not for just five minutes when in that location is a suspension in the fighting, only for the unabridged motion-picture show. At times at that place is over half an hour between whatever kind of fighting, and it is very much appreciated. We really come across a unlike side of Jet Li, this is non 'you killed my master; I have come up to avenge him'. But a new, mod martial arts film, where nosotros accept a plot we can believe in.
Bob Hoskins takes a prissy dramatic plow hither, 'that human being sure can talk', equally Danny's 'owner' and it's a gangster function that suits him well. His angry growl is both fearsome and less put on but unleashed.
Simply don't go me wrong here; this is even so a martial arts pic. Y'all'll observe yourself cringing and laughing from fright at the fight scenes. Jet Li is not a sleek, showy performer here, but real fighter, intense and scary in his brutality. Just equally brutal is the realisation of human freedom and man nature, in some ways were all somebody'southward dog.
Danny the Canis familiaris is clearly Jet Li's best work, and hopefully marks a new direction for him, one I am very much looking forward to seeing.

Chained by Violence. Freed by Music
Warning: Spoilers
''Danny the Canis familiaris'' is crawly! I am surprised that is set in Glasgow, Scotland. I was nearly sure that it was an England. I loved Jet Li and Morgan Freeman in their respective roles! Morgan I already know that is a bully histrion, but Jet Li really surprised me in his role as ''Danny''.
Danny is a Chinese orphan-turned-slave, with the mind and personality of a little child. He was e'er treated like a canis familiaris and also every bit a fighting automobile past his owner Bart.Wearing a dog collar around his neck, when the collar is removed, you can see how he transforms as an unstoppable violent fighter. One mean solar day, when an accident happens that lands Bart in a coma,Danny meets a blind piano tuner, Sam, who helps Danny offering him shelter in his business firm, and taking intendance of Danny'due south health. Sam as long as his footstep-daughter Victoria, helps Danny to change his life, not only teaching him about humanity, but also how to savor his new life.
The problem is that Danny's happiness will non last much, since his owner Bart is live, every bit long as his ex companions.
This motion-picture show has a beautiful message about peace, love and agreement. I would totally recommend it for everybody, specially for the ones who has some sensibility.

Wow! What action movies are all about
Warning: Spoilers
I won't say the showtime ii minutes of the picture are worth the price of access, but it is pretty close. This is the second film to exist released this yr with amazing martial arts sequences that brand people squirm in their seats from the shear brutality (the other being Ong Bak). This isn't the super pretty martial arts that proves that Jet Li deserved winning People's republic of china's national championship over and over. No this is the brutal, hard hitting, anything goes sort of fighting. Also unlike most action movies that have come out recently, you can really encounter the activeness. Yes, there are dozens of cuts per fight scene, but you really come across a full sequence of moves and get to come across most of the actors in most shots.
The opening scene features Danny (Jet Li) beingness unleashed on a room full of thugs. He gain to use fists, elbows, knees, fifty-fifty his head to inflict broken arms, legs, and at least a few ribs. The truly remarkable matter is how fast and visceral the action is. Also, dissimilar his by couple of movies, Unleashed does non rely strongly on wire work. Yes there are scenes with wire work, simply they are relatively subtle and the exception not the rule.
Between the opening few fight scenes, and the finale fight scene, Danny temporarily gets abroad from his "Uncle" Bart (Ben Hoskins) and winds upwardly with Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his step-daughter (Kerry Condon). The early on scenes with Sam are Danny are very practiced, with Sam providing an open up kindness and Danny the cautious childlike promise. While it isn't as over the top sappy equally I had feared going into the motion picture, the music saves his life, aspect is a bit corny. Especially how quickly, both in screen time and in elapsed time, the recovery is made. But, that is 1 affair nigh action movies, and martial arts movies in particular, they are supposed to have that bit of slightly corny plot between action sequences. And this is much better than nearly (which is inevitable with the superb bandage).
All told, I gave this movie a nine/ten. As far every bit movies all fourth dimension get, it might not rate that highly, but in terms of action/martial arts movies this is one of the best I have seen in a long time, and has some of the all-time activeness between the activity sequences.

A surprisingly good picture show
When I beginning saw the preview for this moving picture I was excited. But non because it looked like a stellar picture show, I only like Jet Li. I am a huge fan of martial arts movies. I similar them all from Seven Samurai to your comedic Jackie Chan movie. When I left this movie I was even more excited. Not only were the fight scenes unbelievably intense and well coordinated, but the acting was quite expert. Of form Morgan Freeman was keen, as in every motion-picture show. But the nod has to go to Jet Li for his performance as Danny the Domestic dog. I knew he could fight but this picture elevated him to an role player in my book, and not just a martial artist. His transformation from an creature to homo was acted with a certain finesse that y'all wait from a good film. The characters were well written and well acted all around. The bad guys were creepy, Jet Li was believable, and they had Morgan Freeman to pb the moving picture in to excellence. My vote meet it, and watch information technology more than once to meet all the aspects of the movie.

Triumphant mixture of action and drama
DANNY THE Canis familiaris
(U.s./Uk: Unleashed)
Aspect ratio: 2.39:ane
Audio formats: Dolby Digital / DTS
Raised as a fighting machine by thuggish Glasgow loan sharks, a young man (Jet Li) finds happiness after falling into the intendance of a kindly old piano teacher (Morgan Freeman) and his musical-protégé granddaughter (Kerry Condon). But Li'due south past catches up with him, threatening the safety of his newfound family...
Terrific combination of heartfelt drama and os-crunching action scenes (choreographed by Yuen Wo-ping), anchored by strong performances (including Bob Hoskins every bit Li'south barbarous 'mentor') and a finely-tuned script by French action maestro Luc Besson. Grainy filmstock and an backlog of closeups (typical of the ghastly Super 35 'widescreen' procedure) render information technology less cinematic than it ought to exist, and the narrative is predictable, but the moving picture works on a visceral level whilst simultaneously pulling the heartstrings. Li's all-time non-HK film since Buss OF THE DRAGON (2001).

Ane of Li's all-time films of the 2000s
Warning: Spoilers
Jet Li's latest martial arts epic is quite an unusual pic, with an unwieldy premise that feels like three entirely unlike kinds of films all mixed together rather randomly. First of all there are the gladiator-style fighting gear up-pieces, in which Li typically battles opponents, sometimes in a band; these extraordinarily violent moments offering all the activeness a kung fu fan could wish for. Secondly, in that location's a gangsterish sub-plot, in which 21st century Glasgow becomes a seedy London of the '70s, every bit Bob Hoskins and his cronies get around torturing and crippling diverse adversaries. Finally, there'south the homo drama, in which Li becomes part of a family consisting of a blind Morgan Freeman and his niece. The elements are disparate, but the concluding event is an interesting movie.
New director Louis Leterrier, who has proved his worth with this and TRANSPORTER 2, delivers the activity with aplomb and Yuen Woo Ping's choreography also helps loads; these fights are fast, furious and exceptionally hard-hitting, with lots of broken bones and actually crucial battles. The arena fight with a pacifist Danny and the battle with the bald assassin are peculiarly worthy moments, some of the best I've seen, and I can't expect to watch them again.
The human being side of the story is too well handled, rather better than it should be, and Freeman turns the minor office of the pianoforte tuner into something special and moving, yet human at the same time. Condon is sweetness every bit the daughter who brings out Li's humanity, and the pair share some touching moments. Not and so with Bob Hoskins, who chews the scenery as the spectacularly unpleasant mob boss; Hoskins is on top grade whether he'south raging in acrimony or telling one of his anecdotes. I guess I'chiliad not the only 1 wondering what Hoskins and Freeman are doing in an action B-motion picture.
Li himself is adept, although I found him more than sympathetic in KISS OF THE DRAGON; he's said he's giving upwards kung fu and becoming a 'serious' player, but I'chiliad non totally convinced that he'due south good enough to do that. Martial arts-wise, though, Li is spectacular, a real forcefulness of nature who tears up the screen fourth dimension afterwards time, bringing new levels of entertainment to the viewer. A couple of excellent car crashes add together to the activeness caliber and the result is a watchable film that should satisfy most fans who can handle the violence.

Scenic and violent fights along with an enjoyable story
The motion picture concerns about Danny(an incredible Jet Li) a fellow who lives like a slave . He is treated similar a domestic dog past his proprietary Bart(a magnificent villain Bob Hoskins)a nasty mobster from Glascow who raised him since child like a savage animal . When Bart unleashes his collar Danny is behaving similar a rabid dog and starts hitting and knocking people practicing his natural talent for martial arts. His amazing slickness united to a risk sense converted him in a tournaments champion.Afterwards a machine blow is executed by an opposite gangster(a tough Vincent Regan) and Danny flees and shelters at home of a blind tuner of pianoforte named Sam(every bit ever an fantabulous Morgan Freeman) and his stepdaughter(a charming Kerry Condon).Danny is haunted past the musical sounds which remember him his anterior life.
The picture show gets frenetic activeness, impressive fights with bound and leaps and no stunts simply the same actors are the fighters. The struggles are well staged with spectacular choreography in charge of the specialist Woo Ping Yuen(Kill Neb and Matrix).Merely not only fights but the moving-picture show has an interesting story(well written past Luc Besson) where a trigger-happy Danny is attracted for a familiar feeling .In spite of the rough violence the pic has its amusing moments here and at that place narrated with ductility and delicacy and developed with bully sense of fairness and sensitivity. The music with a fleck of get past Massive attack. The film is produced past the French producer Pierre Spengler with a long career and past the same Jet Li(Cradle 2,Hero,The 1,Buss of dragon) .The motion picture show is well directed by Louis Leterrier(Tansporteur I and II). The movie will like to Jet Li fans and martial arts enthusiastic. Rating Ameliorate than average, well worth watching.

i showtime saw this pic in the theatre months ago and left feeling speechless. i've always enjoyed Jet Li in his films even though i have not liked all of the movies he's been in. on showtime viewing i found the film getting meliorate as information technology went along, and had me pondering the lives that and so many of us lead, getting up, going to work, coming domicile to family unit, pets, friends. i was very disturbed by what man is capable of doing to human being. i also believe that this was the first performance i've seen by the usually impeccable Bob Hoskins that i didn't savor. i thought i could guess how the film would progress, simply happily i was wrong. it's months later on now and i watched it again (the "extreme version") on DVD and i experience similar i can comment on this motion picture. what a joy to see the wonderful Morgan Freeman, his grapheme beingness the polar reverse of Hoskins',being unconditionally kind, accepting, and good. and it was also nice to meet that Kerry Condon is playing Octavia in the current HBO series ROME. it may have been partially due to these fine actors only i think Jet Li can act! i've always enjoyed his athletic martial arts prowess and his understated performances, and that "look" he has in his optics. but i found Jet convincing in this film. he has range! it's made me an even bigger fan of his. and with time i was able to run into more of the altruism shown here and get by the bleak, sad, horror of this film. 1 of the things i enjoyed about Luc Besson'south artistic contribution to Transporter was the score. it really went well with Jason Statham "martial arting" the bad guys. with UNLEASHED i didn't detect the music. i only watched Jet Li. the score is something i always listen to in a pic. and the bulletin that came through on second viewing, is that a person can intermission gratis from how nosotros are molded, how nosotros are raised; that we all accept a selection about how we react to this globe and to the people in it. i hate it when people justify their behavior and their deportment past saying, "that's the way i was raised". they should sentinel this picture show and come away with more than just existence entertained by a martial arts moving-picture show. the cast and the writing made information technology more than than that. this pic is unique in several ways and i would recommend it to virtually whatever film buff. one last comment; i accept a strong love of animals of all kinds, and i've adopted more than a few whom people accept told me should be put down because of their lack of sociability or some other flaw. sometimes information technology took a yr or more but these "unacceptable" animals are at present and/or accept been loving, affectionate, enjoyable members of my family. with love, patience, and elementary kindness, most of united states can respond in kind. similar i said, i really liked this picture.

Not your standard martial arts film: Original, very engaging drama
With Jet Li as the pb, I was expecting a fun martial arts action picture, but Unleashed is something quite different. While it does accept a good bit of martial arts in it, it is closer in spirit to one of those boxing movies that has boxing matches in it merely is really about the personal drama of the boxer.
The premise is quite original (and rather disturbing) and information technology is handled quite nicely, with a terrific performance by Bob Hoskins and good performances past the others. The movie is affecting and the martial arts scenes in the get-go and the finish (every bit proof that it is not a typical martial arts film, the middle part of the movie is virtually violence-complimentary) are well filmed, the last i being particularly exciting.
One does accept to wonder about Morgan Freeman'southward rather unrealistic level of helpfulness. Perhaps in that location is something in his by that would make him do all he does, merely the motion-picture show doesn't bother to give him whatever motivation beyond only being a nice guy. Just if you can look past that it'south really put together very nicely, and I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys movies, even those who aren't martial arts fans.

Best Jet Li Picture show
Commencement and foremost, this is merely my personal opinion, if your here to tell me how bad of a movie it is, salve it. I don't care what you have to say, However bias information technology may audio, I simply know a expert pic when I come across 1.
Non but was it the Best Jet li film I have seen, I recall it was ane of my many favorite of many films that I have seen this year. With such peachy actors similar Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins, and Jet li's acting has much improved as well. This moving-picture show combines some of my favorite genres from Kung-fu to drama, to action and perhaps even gore, this movie is rather trigger-happy. I recollect it was done so, every bit to convey the kind of violence that Danny inherited due to his evil master'south example/means. I recollect the story is perfectly believable, and it just keeps getting better, there isn't a dull moment from the jaw dropping fight scenes, some of jet li's best I think since Fist of Fable, and Once upon a time in china. To the growing relationships between danny and sam, to character and plot development. With a superb soundtrack, done by a swell electronic band: Massive Attack. And cute cinematography. I take nothing more to say except it's the best movie I've seen all year, I suggest you get run into it and savour it, every bit much as I did!

Drama, not an action movie
Unleashed is the touching story of Danny (Jet Li) who as a young male child was brought harshly by a loanshark (Bob Hoskins) and was trained to impale once his dog collar is removed. Although Danny was brought upwardly equally a canis familiaris, he is human, and through the intervention of music and the care and love of a bullheaded piano tuner (Morgan Freeman), and his stepdaughter (Kerry Condon), Danny discovers another side of life.
Unleashed is not an action motion picture. There certainly are some spectacular fight scenes, simply the emphasis is put on the relationship between Morgan Freeman and his stepdaughter, and Jet Li, and on the development of Danny's "humanity". Danny yearns for more than just killing; he discovers music and is saved past it. Music also plays a cardinal role in his self-discovery equally it awakens long-lost memories of his childhood.
For the kickoff time, the audience are treated to Jet Li'south true acting capabilities. Jet Li seems 18-carat and earnest--perhaps this is because the actor openly acknowledges that this film is close to his heart: as a Buddhist, Jet Li is against violence, and this film portrays the fight between humanity and violence.
This drama is a surprising interruption from usual martial arts movies. The fact that the number of action scenes is limited is counter-counterbalanced past Yuen Wo Ping's masterful choreography; do not wait a fight-fest. Do however expect an unpretentious touching story featuring good actors with a few spectacular action scenes.

Jet was then incredibly intense in the fight scenes here, as I accept never seen him so angry, and I absolutely loved it! plus it's extremely well made and written equally well. The bond Jet shared with Morgan and Kerry Condon was splendid as they had smashing chemistry together, and this movie just isn't nearly the action it actually has a actually emotional story to it as well, plus I really liked the ending too on my Extreme version . I loved the fight choreography, and The film is besides quite vehement at times likewise, plus some of the stunts were just awesome!. The fight scene in the toilet stall between jet and the guy dressed in all white was fantastic and I loved Jet's obsession with music, plus yous will really care for the 3 main characters (Jet, Morgan and Kerry). What a difference from Li'south previous Films!!!
Simply I mean that in a very skilful Fashion. Well outset off all of you going into this Movie expecting a Martial arts festival, I have to disappoint you. This Movie focuses More than on the dramatic Storyline, then rather on spectacular Fights. Even so very impressive Fights are in the Movie, it is the Storyline between Danny (Li), Bart (Hoskins), Sam (Freeman) and Victoria (Condon) that keeps you lot in the Moving picture. This Movie is mainly a Drama/Martial Arts Motion-picture show and no Crime/Action/Thriller like IMDb shows you. Honestly I haven't seen much Hosking's movies in the past, simply believe me the main Reasons that keep yous into the Flick are very fine Performances from Jet Li and Bob Hoskins. Both of em are wonderful. Another plus to this Movie are the Sound effects. They are realistic as Hell. In nigh of the Fight Movies you hear some weird sounds coming when they hit i another; well this one were so brutally real that I thought wow they are killing each other out at that place. The Fights are few merely very spectacular and somewhat brutal. The first two Fights are excellent because they are shot very realistic and with a fast paced photographic camera, the last Fights are more graphical and slowly filmed. But as I watched the kickoff two Fights I was impressed how everybody involved in the Fight Sequences, did such a wonderful Job on letting them look savage and realistic. Every fourth dimension Li hits somebody I saturday there feeling the brutalized Hits, which allow's you go the feeling that you're in the Fights (Not Literally but it lets you experience the Hits). Louis Leterrier did a very good Job filming this Movie. The Fight Scenes are not too quick, and so that you can meet everything and the Dramatic Scenes are shot with the correct Corporeality of Center to keep the Spectator engaged in the Movie. But exist Aware subsequently the first two Fights, is a great Hole which is filled with 40-50 Mins of Storyline, which didn't carp me, just I can imagine that People volition go into this Pic expecting something similar Romeo must die, Twin Warriors or Fist of Legend they will be heavily disappointed, because this Picture show focuses more on it's engaging Storyline. So delight enter the Theater with this in Mind and you will Dear this Movie. One Matter actually bothers me that is the American manner of promoting the Movie. Every bit ever they will promote the Film as one of Li's new Martial Arts Festival, with non-stop ass kicking from Li but Please ever keep in Mind, Li is more interim than fighting in this Movie!! It is a Drama with Martial Arts Elements in it. Don't exist fooled past American Distributors!!!!!!!!

Li is Unleashed...
This evening, I've purchased the uncut version of "Unleashed" on DVD. This is perhaps one of the best activity/drama films I've ever seen in my entire life. Film producer and screenwriter Luc Besson have struck platinum once once again.
This flick is about a homo named Danny who is raised from a childhood past a ruthless kingpin to go an unstoppable killing machine. Catastrophe up in a blackout after a machine accident in a fix, he met a blinded piano tuner who befriends Danny and start a new life. After a change of middle and picking upward the pieces of the murdering of her mother, Danny gear up out to fight dorsum and vows revenge on the offense lord once and for all.
I've seen many action pictures that Jet Li made, but this film is a different approach as he blends action with the human being drama. I thought this was Li's all-time functioning in the history of movement pictures. Fifty-fifty Oscar winner Morgan Freeman did an excellent job and the manner he acts and teaches Danny (Li) about the of import things about life. And finally, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" actor and Oscar nominee Bob Hoskins did a hell of a job portraying the bad guy and, man, he'southward one evil son of a gun.
Whether you buy the R-rated or the unrated Director's Cut version of the film, yous're gonna have a dandy time watching "Unleashed" and enjoy it over and over again. And so for my final grade... I give it an A+ for this picture!!!!

This pic, focus'south on the one thing, that makes anything Great.
This pic, circulates around a purity, and a rage entwined around each other. Information technology'due south beyond timeless, Jet Li is perfect and more than. It portrays the ill people in this world, and what they practice for the most pathetic tools everyone needs. Information technology shows Honey, and Expiry. And it shows Demand for the Truth. Its far to obvious that anyone that opposes this is simply out of their own mind in egotistical attending. The question is, is this movie portraying the bodily real globe we live in, or is information technology not? This movie floods your mind and heart with ability and love. It was perfectly articulate, and balanced betwixt life and death. This movie was never over-advertised, showing that it was made for the intent of impressing, rather so selling, and getting money... Its perfect.

Only the best of Jet Li's films.
I rented this movie because Jet Li was in it and I love his action movie fighting style. It always amazed me the sheer beauty of his movements. Ballet was always the nearest comparing I could envision when watching him in action.
Unleashed/Danny the Canis familiaris is utterly, astoundingly different. The opening scenes of violence were merely that. Hard and barbarous, no beauty, pure street-level brutality. As the character evolved, grew into a person, the style changed. It was still harsh and brutal, just tempered with a hint of the flow of his other works. I haven't noticed other commenters picking upwardly on the transition, information technology deserves notice. In martial arts, movement is highly attuned to the person - and Jet Li certainly understood the need for Danny to transition every bit a person, a fighter and more in this movie.
At that place wasn't a single scene that didn't make yous react - shock, sympathy, empathy or sheer longing for the grapheme'south freedom and growth. I sincerely hope Jet Li receives recognition for the intensity he brought to this role. Information technology has apace moved to beingness ane of my favorites.

An enhanced fight movie
First-class acting, good story, overnice filming and an astonishing sound. I really have to credit Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins for their performances. Hoskins never fails in the role of the bad guy, Freeman delivers at his loftier end, and I like his sense for the effectively spices of life. Intalligent acting and a skillful script. Jet Li is 1 of my favored activeness hero and seeing him here was no disappointment at all. Young Kerry Condon plays Victoria, a skillful chose. PS Don't forget the song at the end of the film. The film has a lot of interesting bi roles. Take good wait at the small timers hanging effectually Hoskins, Raffles and Lefty and all the other hateful looking sadists accompanied past the cold gear up gives the motion-picture show the extras that honors the genre of action-gangster-in-this-world movies, and withal it's so much more.

One of the best movies I've seen recently
This was a quantum operation for Jet Li. Information technology was nice to run into him get away from only being the amazing fighter, and seeing him in a piddling bit more of a serious role. Of course Morgan Freeman was only bright, and Bob Hoskins did an astonishing job equally the villain.
This movie had a lot less action than I had predictable, just the story behind it makes it much ameliorate than any corporeality of action/violence could take. The theater was full of people laughing, gasping or beingness COMPLETELY silent as i. Information technology was the perfect mix of action and comedy inside a heartfelt story.
I recommend this movie to any fan of any moving picture EVER!
